Laurie Stansfield

Laurie is a children’s picture book illustrator living in South Bristol, UK. In 2010, she graduated in illustration from UWE with a Highly Recommended achievement from The Macmillan Prize for her self-written picture book. Laurie has been working as a freelance illustrator since 2010 and has been creating artwork from BV Studios since 2012.

She honed her skills towards picture books years later, after an epic trip to Bologna Children’s Book Fair in 2018 where she joined Pickled Ink agency and secured her first book deal with Ladybird Books. Laurie’s illustrations focus on character and movement. Her skill for drawing brings a traditional charm and when mixed with her bright colour palette the images look upbeat and modern. Joy and humour can be found in her imagery.

Her work has been published by Rocket Bird Books, Andersen Press, Random House US and Ladybird Books, amongst others. She teamed up with Storysmith bookshop on North Street to celebrate her most recent publications with window displays and school visits.

Laurie has also lectured on BA illustration course at University of the West of England and the University of Gloucestershire. Her husband, Ben Goodman, is a talented printmaker who also creates artwork in B V Studios.
