Saffron Darby

Saffron Darby is a clothing designer with over twenty years’ experience creating thoughtful, enduring garments for renowned fashion and lifestyle brands including Toast. During her decade as Senior Designer at Toast, she honed an enduring design ethos rooted in simplicity, modernity, and functionality — producing pieces intended to be lived in and loved for years.

Now co-owner of Brown in Town, a Tailor & Atelier based in Bristol, Saffron’s latest focus is Mise Supply, a workwear brand shaped by conversations around service, design, and practical needs. The idea for Mise grew from a desire to create garments — such as chef jackets and trousers, aprons, and shirts — developed in collaboration with the people who wear them every day. Drawing on her extensive design background, Saffron brings contemporary relevance to traditional workwear, ensuring each piece balances practicality with timeless style: clothing made to be worn, worked in, and loved.

Saffron’s deep interest in sustainability, textile longevity, and the resurgence of visible mending led her to establish Meet Make Mend (MMM) in 2019 — a slow-stitch mending collective hosted at Bristol Textile Quarter. Through MMM, Saffron invites participants of all abilities to slow down, stitch, and restore their worn textiles in a warm, communal setting that encourages skill-sharing, storytelling, and calm connection. Since March 2024, she has also been facilitating Meet Make Mend workshops at Arnolfini & Fforest Glow Sew and Gather, extending her ethos of mindful mending to new communities.
