Dave Boyd

After studying art and design and gaining a Masters from the Royal College of Art, Dave decided to change career and become a professional Librarian. Dave worked for the University of Bristol for almost 30 years, supporting History of Art for a time and then heading the University’s digital library service; during this time he continued to practice art on a part-time basis. Dave retired from librarianship in 2019 to focus on his artistic practice.

Dave’s artistic practice focuses on the juxtaposition between the manmade and natural and the human experience of geometric forms, surfaces and materials. Paintings and collages often embody a built aesthetic and are strongly influenced by architecture and the built environment.

Utilising and repurposing informal materials such as cardboard and product packaging Dave’s work aims to suggest visual encounters with structures and landscapes, with a focus on minimal composition, surface and colour.
